EMT is useful for the fixed portion of a raceway; flexible metal conduit is useful where the final approach needs movement or routing freedom. This connector is designed for the point where those two systems meet, with a compression interface on the EMT side and a screw-in interface on the flexible-conduit side.

Choose it when both sides use the same trade size and the flexible-conduit construction is compatible with the screw-in end. It is different from an EMT connector, which terminates EMT at an enclosure, and from a straight coupling, which joins two lengths of the same conduit type.
