The locknut is the retaining component of a threaded conduit or fitting entry. Its ring threads into position at the enclosure wall.

At the enclosure end of an IMC or RMC run, a locknut retains the threaded entry in position. A threaded coupling does a different job by joining two conduit lengths. A bushing also has a separate role at the conductor-entry surface, so these parts should be selected by their function rather than treated as interchangeable threaded rings.
